Media Links Updated

I changed servers for my website causing the media links on this site to go down. I have fixed this and once again you can view the first night rememberance, the funeral, and the memorial slide show. These are linked at right, in the "Image Galleries / Highlights" box.

The multimedia was built using an older version of Soundslides. Some platforms have trouble playing this. Allowing the media to load completely before playing may help but if not, my apologies.

Thanks,
tim

Lara Kellogg Funeral

These are images from Lara's funeral, reception, and after party at Kasi and Andreas's. The song is the closest rendition I could find to the performance of "You Light Up My Life" during the service by soloist Gloria Hanson and accompanist Reed Terzian.

Remembrance Slideshow

This is a more produced version of the looping slideshow at the reception following Lara's funeral on 5 May, 2007. Duration: 7min 20sec.

Images were submitted by Lara's friends and family; they were compiled in a somewhat chronological fashion though my familiarity with the who's who of Lara's life is limited to the more recent years. Music was a compromise of my tastes, what I knew of Lara's, the numerous suggestions I received, and what I felt would satisfy a broad audience.

The final images are of Lara's last day. The last image is of "Lara Shan," a first ascent by Chad Kellogg, Joe Puryear, and Jay Janousek. Named for Lara.

These images, this slideshow, and the funeral images will be available on CD soon-ish. I will make copies for a select few who I will list and, like the phone tree, they can be copied and distributed.

Thanks,
Tim Matsui

Peanut Butter Jelly Time

Colin Haley was over yesterday to scan images and, being the early-twenties college student that he is, he knows about Peanut Butter Jelly Time. I didn't until one morning when I dropped by Lara's Freemont office and she just *had* to show me this thing about a dancing banana. So she did.

As I sort of stared, mouth agape, at what I thought was an inane and poorly done animation, Lara burst out laughing. Doubled over laughing. Then she started singing along and dancing the dance herself, right there in the office.

Yesterday Colin and I found the file on the web and had ourselves a good laugh. If you haven't seen it, I hope you enjoy it. It's silly. And I still think it's inane. But it reminds me of Lara, dancing, laughing and lifting my spirits. It gave me one more memory of her, one I just had to share.

Seven Years of Slides

Steve Hyde called and said he was surrounded by seven years worth of slides, evidence of a long relationship with Lara before she and Chad tied the knot. Today we began working them up while Cece Mortensen occupied the couch and, later, Roger Strong sat on the radiator with us, swapping stories.

Friends, past boyfriends, climbs, and major accomplishments are recorded here in this partial visual record of a young woman living life to its fullest. Including this one of Lara on Ama Dablam.

Best,
Tim Matsui

Evening Remembrance

I took a few snaps. I also included some pics from Chad and Lara's wedding. This is for those who weren't there to enjoy the Knob Creek, the 12 yr Macallan, the hugs and the tears. Yes, there's a lot of whiskey pictures but I think that's true to LBK form. And, yes, some of these pictures are out of focus, off color, poorly lit, but whatever. I brought the Knob Creek and had every intention of saluting Lara. There are so many stories, so many moments of laughter and incredulity.

If you would like to upload an image or story, please email me: photo(at)timmatsui.com and I will give you the user/password for this blog.

And please forward this link and this info to those who'd wish to share their images and stories.

Best,
tim
